So now you can do hard tags, basically punching a runner in the gut with the ball when you tag him out; stiff arms, knocking a player in the field out of the way when you're running for a base; and slides, sliding into a base and a player if they are in the way.
You also get to use the turbo meter made famous in NBA Jam and like NBA Jam if your player is doing well you can also catch on fire - making you permanently turboed up for a time.
In addition, MLB Slugfest: Loaded allows you to switch off all of the power-ups and contact playing, turning it into a regular boring baseball game. The game sports four modes of play, quickplay, home run derby, online and franchise. The franchise mode is pretty in-depth but doesn't seem to really fit with the over-the-top, better than real life theme of the game. What does work well with MLB Slugfest: Loaded's theme are the oodles of crazy unlockables in the game. It also resets between each round.
Like in previous games, players with the Extra Power Gauge can perform a Super Special Move at any time when their vitality is low as shown by a blinking life bar. However, performing this technique while in the MAX state at low vitality changes it to a flashier, more powerful "MAX" version of it. In addition, activating MAX state with a low vitality increases the duration to 25 seconds as shown by a larger timer bar.

The article is out of date. Overall, it's a blast to play, with insanely over-the-top pitching, batting, and fielding anyone can pick up and enjoy. I wouldn't hold off for next year's model, either. History tells us if Hitz and Blitz are any indication this second entry will be SlugFesfs shining moment. There's not much more ground to cover, so buy this one and you're golden.
It's a definite hit-right in your eye. SlugFest returns for a second season of hardball that even people who've never swung a virtual whooping stick can pick up instantly.
Aside from some lackadaisical outfielders who take forever to react to well-hit balls, the gameplay is fast, fun, and simple. It's funny, too, although the commentators' goofy anecdotes become repetitive. Luckily, multiplayer action shines--it's always a blast to vibrate your buddy's controller via the Taunt button after belting another pitch over the fences, fust don't expect High Heat-style complexity.
There's no doubt that SlugFest delivers a good time-- as the arcadey alternative to this season's baseball-sim glut, it offers rollickin' two-player fun. Taunting your buddy after he blows a big lead which will happen is great, and the over-the-top showboating and exaggerated animations capture a competitive spirit the serious MLB sims lack.
But that's not enough to cover the annoying control flaws, like a frustrating running game and spotty defense, especially in the outfield. If you're looking for a solid one-player game, look elsewhere.
